On March 24th and 25th, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) is bringing their new broadcasting exhibition trailer to St Joseph’s. The trailer is a fantastic vehicle providing a unique stimulus and hands on learning experience, as well as an insight into the workings of the media industry. The trailer visits select schools from all over Australia and we have been lucky enough to be selected! We are very excited about this opportunity that is sure to be an extremely rewarding experience for students, teachers and even parents!
The exhibition trailer is fit with a fully operational TV studio where students can experience the magic of the chromo key and teleprompter, learning how TV studios operate. There is also a high tech radio studio where students can panel their own Radio Show via a specialised touchscreen program. All these presentations and performances are recorded and are available to download from our website using a unique code. There are plenty of other activities on the trailer – interactive games, exploring the new education portal on abc.net.au, self-navigating through various documentaries and more.
There are a number of scripts the students can read from in the TV studio including Sport, News, Weather or BTN, or they can work on and present their own TV script. If reading a news bulletin isn’t of interest, we also have a variety of ABC for Kids songs that participants can sing along to, or students can co-host a show.

Our Year 6 students had an incredible day of discovery and reflection during our excursion to the city today! The day began with a step back in time (and a step into leadership) at NSW State Parliament. Students walked the halls of power, learning about the democratic process and the history of our state. It was fantastic to see them engaging with how our society is governed and thinking about their roles as future citizens. We then transitioned from the bustling halls of Parliament to the serene beauty of the Royal Botanic Gardens. As part of our learning in Religion, students took a "sacred pause" among the greenery. It was a special moment to witness them reflecting on the wonder of God’s creation, finding peace and gratitude in the intricate details of the natural world right in the heart of Sydney. From the pillars of government to the petals of the gardens, our students represented the school with pride, curiosity, and a spirit of reflection. Today marks the beginning of our annual Project Compassion Appeal! As we enter the season of Lent, we join with Caritas Australia to help end poverty and promote justice across the globe. The theme this year is ‘Unite Against Poverty,’ reminding us that the small actions we take today can create a lifetime of change for communities in need. Project Compassion supports some of the most vulnerable communities in the world. In Week 6, we are participating in the Big Water Walk to raise awareness about the fact that there are some countries in our world that don’t have sufficient water supplies. Together we can help others!

What a beautiful and meaningful day at St. Joseph’s!
